Molluscum Contagiosum is the name for a highly contagious skin condition which appears on the surface of the skin, molluscum contagiosum is very common these days. Molluscum contagiosum is caused by the poxvirus. Molluscum contagiosum shares the the same viral family which causes chicken pox and shingles,these virus are very siminal in appearnece as molluscum contagiosum blisters. Typically molluscum contagiosum blisters will occur in clusters which have an indented center and are fluid filled. Molluscum contagiosum blisters may vary in size and amount but not in shape all molluscum contagiosum blisters will be raised and round.

Anyone can catch the molluscum contagiosum skin disease as it is highly communicable. Some people may notice that the molluscum contagiosum infection their children have spread to other siblings this is normal for molluscum to do. Molluscum will usually appear on the skin of children in schools as it is passed on from person to person through contact. Since kids have the most contact with one another during play, it is more frequent that there will be an outbreak of molluscum contagiosum on their skin.

Molluscum is also sexually transmitted through oral or unprotected sexual intercourse. Since molluscum is a contagious skin condition it spreads rapidly when scratched. The scratching of the molluscum causes what is known as self inoculation, meaning the person is infecting new areas of their body with the molluscum virus. This scratching may inadvertently be spread to the genitalia. Molluscum can be spread to another person during sex if the genitalia or any body part comes into contact with the molluscum blisters.

Molluscum blisters are generally found on those living in more hot climates. Children as mentioned previously are a lot more likely to be infected with molluscum on their face abdominal region as well as areas they spread the skin condition to through self inoculation. In adults molluscum is more frequently a sexually transmitted disease and is seen more on the genital and anal regions of the body.
